Oral surgery involves the reshaping of the hard and soft tissues of the mouth. Commonly, it includes removing teeth, gum/bone surgery and placement of dental implants. Oral surgery procedure also includes biopsies of oral tissue and treating facial fractures.

Post-surgical procedures patients will be managed for control pain, bleeding and/or swelling. Following prescribed post-surgical instructions will help to expedite healing.

  1. What procedures are considered oral surgery?

2. Do they put you to sleep for oral surgery?

Sedation or general anesthesia is available for patients that require its use. Most patients do very well even with complex surgical care using local anesthetic alone or with some level of sedation.

3. Is oral surgery painful?

You may experience the most pain in the first 24 to 48 hours after your surgery. Some soreness or discomfort at the site of the surgery may last from 3 to 5 days. The amount of discomfort is different from one person to another and from one operation to another. Our office may prescribe medication to ease your pain.
